For 223 Holstein-Friesian (HF), (superscript 3/4 HF-1/4 zebu) x (superscript 3/4 HF-1/4 zebu), and (5/8 HF-superscript 3/8 zebu) x (5/8 HF-superscript 3/8 zebu) calves, birth weight averaged 34.5+or-0.08 kg, the difference between genotypes being non-significant. Male calves averaged 2 kg more at birth than (P less than 0.10). For the 3 genotypes resp., gestation length averaged 278.7+or-1.9, 281.4+or-1.7 and 285.3+or-1.7 days (P less than 0.05).
