Characteristics of the causes of various epidemic manifestations in foci of tick-borne encephalitis in western Siberia and the Far East

A laboratory study carried out in the USSR showed that strains of tick-borne encephalitis virus isolated from Ixodes persulcatus Schulze collected in western Siberia and Haemaphysalis concinna Koch collected in the Maritime Territory did not differ greatly in virulence, in spite of the considerable differences in severity of symptoms in the 2 regions.
