Araecerus fasciculatus (Deg.) was first recorded as a pest of grapefruit in the Lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas, in August 1982. Weevils were identified in 17 grapefruit orchards throughout the valley. Infestation levels varied from 1 to 5 weevil-infested fruits per 1000.
