Seven herds with infertility attributable to infection with bovine herpesvirus 1 were vaccinated, 3 with a live, attenuated vaccine (Bayer) and the remainder with an inactivated vaccine (Iffa Merieux). The former was sprayed onto the respiratory and genital mucous membranes and the latter was injected subcutaneously. Both vaccines improved fertility.
