Abstract
Earll (pp.2-6) highlights the need for comprehensive coastal zone management in the UK, which integrates the many uses with effective management and legislation. Mitchell (pp.7-11) discusses the provisions for statutory Marine Nature Reserves (MNRs) inserted into the Wildlife and Countryside Act, 1981. Shaw (pp.11-16) outlines the proposals made for marine conservation in A conservation and development programme for the UK, (Programme Organizing Committee of the Conservation and Development Programme for the UK, Kogan Page, London, 1983).
