Crop rotation studies in Egypt. I: growth and yield of wheat as affected by crop rotation and fertilization residues

Wheat Giza 155 was grown during 1977-79 in 2 and 3 yr rotations following cotton. The wheat was treated with 40 kg N/feddan applied in 2 split dressings; cotton was treated with 0, 30 or 60 kg N as urea/feddan, with FYM applied before seedbed preparation at 20 t/feddan or with green manure derived from clover grown as a catch crop before cotton. Crop rotation had no significant effect on plant ht., number of tillers, 1000-grain wt. or grain and straw yield of wheat.
