Development of isogenic non-restorer downy mildew resistant lines in pearl millet (Pennisetum typhoides (Burm.) S. & H.)

The nonmale-fertility restoring P. typhoides inbreds PT732B ad MS5141B were crossed with the inbred J126D2B which is highly resistant to Sclerospora graminicola. Hybrids from these crosses showed 0 to 100% infection under sick-plot conditions. Lines derived from disease-free F2 families were used to pollinate corresponding male-sterile lines.
