Abstract
In trials in 1973 and 1974 on heavy, wet but improved soil in Jezevo, 50, 75 or 100 kg N/ha was applied in autumn and the following spring in different proportions (all in autumn, all in spring , or 33%, 50% or 67% in autumn or spring). Mean seed yields for the 3 N rates were 2.43, 2.64 and 2.90 t/ha compared with 2.04 t with no N. Increasing the rate of N from 50 to 100 kg/ha increased the crude oil yield by 238 kg/ha. Seed oil percentage was little affected by rate or date of N application. Seed yields were highest where all the N was applied in spring. Data are given on the effect of N treatments on 1000-grain wt., CP yield and content and seed amino acid content.
