Lucerne Saskia was sown in 1978-80 after the harvesting of winter fodder rye or potatoes in soil given various tillage treatments or min. tillage and harvests were taken where possible in the 1st and 2nd yr after the yr of sowing. Yields of lucerne were reduced by late sowing after harvesting of the preceding crop, particularly potatoes and by low soil moisture levels.
