In trials in 1971-3 with oats Kent given 60-90 kg N/ha, application of 90 kg N/ha in 3 splits (30 kg as a basal dressing + 30 kg at 30 days stage + 30 kg after 1st cut) gave the highest yield of green fodder in both seasons. Increase in N rates increased DM production and CP accumulation, but adversely affected DM content and CF formation in fodder.
