Effect of resin disinfacts-I3 and -I5 on Giardia muris and Giardia lamblia

, : Effect of resin disinfacts-I3 and -I5 on Giardia muris and Giardia lamblia. Applied and Environmental Microbiology 46(5): 965-969

The disinfectant properties of strongly basic quaternary ammonium anion-exchange resin-triiodide (resin-I3) and pentaiodide (resin-I5) columns towards Giardia cysts were evaluated. The resin-I5 column rendered aqueous suspensions containing up to 5 x 104 cysts/ml of G. muris or G. lamblia incapable of excystation. The inhibition of excystation was effective at both 4 degrees C and 25 degrees C.
