Effect of salt on early seedling growth and metabolic patterns in moong

Salt inhibited the extension of the hypocotyl and root, and reduced the number of laterals in seedlings of moong (Vigna radiata). It also induced measurable increases in total sugars, sucrose and free proline, but arrested the formation of pigments and reducing sugars in the leaves. Peroxidase activity increased, but no increase in polyphenoloxidase activity was observed.
