Effect of shearing on the growth rate of wether lambs

New Zealand, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries Agricultural Research Division Annual Report 1982/83: 144
Effect of shearing on the growth rate of wether lambs
300 New Zealand Romney Marsh, Coopworth and Perendale wether lambs born and raised at the Whatawhata Hill Country Research Station were shorn in Dec. and Apr., Feb. and Apr., or in Apr. only prior to slaughter in May, and were well or poorly fed between Dec. and May. Shearing did not affect total greasy fleece weight, carcass weight or proportion of carcasses graded prime. Each of the breeds responded similarly to the shearing treatments.
