Effect of short light-dark cycles on the chlorophyll and carotenoid content of maize and tomatoes

Acta Biologica, Szeged 28(1/4): 86-94

Effect of short light-dark cycles on the chlorophyll and carotenoid content of maize and tomatoes

Five-week-old maize seedlings (cvs Pioneer 165, Pioneer 523 and hybrid 3,901) and six-week-old tomato seedlings (cvs Kecskemeti Merevszaru and Kecskemeti-3) were grown in 30-15 and 15-7.5 min light cycles. The short cycle affected the pigment system: it damaged the a/b protein complex of chlorophyll and reduced the neoxanthin and lutein content of total carotenoids.
