From the 20th to 110th day of their 3rd lactation 4 groups of Bulgarian Brown X Black Pied cows were given diets based on maize and lucerne silages, equal in protein, without or with sunflower siftings, untreated or treated with formaldehyde, 2.5 kg replacing barley meal. In addition those given barley meal had fat from animal incineration, 347 g daily.
