Effect of time and level of N and P application on the yield of berseem (Trifolium alexandrinum) fodder and its chemical composition

Berseem was grown on sandy loam soil during 1967-8 and 1968-9. N at 0 or 50 kg/ha and P at 0, 21.8 or 43.6 kg/ha were applied broadcast in 3 treatments, (a) all at time of sowing, (b) half at time of sowing + half after the 2nd cutting and (c) 25% at time of sowing + 25% after each cut. N and P application increased fodder yields; the highest yield (105 t/ha) was obtained at 50 kg N + 43.6 kg P/ha. Fertilizer treatment (a) produced higher yields than (b) or (c).
