Effect of variety, spacing and dates of sowing on the yield components of pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.)

Trials with 3 pigeonpea sown at the end of July, Aug. or Sept. at 4 spacings showed that delayed sowing was advantageous because it reduced the growth duration to a considerable extent and allowed more plants to be accommodated/unit area as evidenced from increased harvest index. The number of pods/unit area was higher in the delayed sowings because of of pod borer damage to July-sown crops. The early maturing sown in Sept. at a spacing of 30 x 15-18 cm was the best.
