The effects of irrigation frequency and method of cultivation on yield and quality of groundnut grown on a vertisol during summer was studied under field conditions. The number of nodules and their dry weight were significantly increased with increasing irrigation frequencies. Irrigation applied at a 13 day interval maintained optimum moisture regime in soil for nodulation. Groundnut grown on ridges and furrows with 540 mm irrigation water which was applied in equal amounts at 10 day intervals produced the maximum pod yield (16.52 q[quintals]/ha), shelling percentage (71.19%), protein (24.20%), oil (50.39%) and showed higher water use efficiency.
