Endocrine pattern and external oestrous symptoms at second and fourth oestrus in gilts

Endocrine pattern and external oestrous symptoms at second and fourth oestrus in gilts

Animal Reproduction Science1984; 6(4): 301-310

The peripheral blood plasma levels of LH, oestradiol-17 beta and progesterone were recorded during the 2nd and 4th pro-oestrous to oestrous periods in 6 Swedish Landrace X Swedish Yorkshire gilts. The relationships between hormonal levels, external heat signs and ovarian function were studied. Blood samples were taken every 3 h during the pro-oestrous to oestrous periods, and tests for oestrus where carried out when blood was collected, otherwise they were carried out twice daily.
