Establishment of virulent biotypes of Venturia inaequalis in order to use them in selecting scab-resistant varieties and seedlings of apple

Ten isolates from different parts of the USSR were tested on 8 differential varieties to determine their virulence genes. The most virulent were the Vologda biotypes of race 2, D5 and D13, isolated from the variety Dolgo. D5 carries the virulence genes P1+, P3+, P5+, P7+, P8+, PP+ (for infection of Pepin Shafrannyi) and PS+ (for infection of Malus sibirica Ranetka Purpurovaya , and D13 carries P1+, P3+, P8+, PP+, PB+ (for infection of Bel'fler Kitaika (Bellflower Chinese crab)) and PS+.
