, : Evaluation of a mutable system for inducing resistance to European corn borer (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) in susceptible inbred lines of dent maize. Journal of the Kansas Entomological Society 56(4): 552-554

An Ac-Ds mutable system was evaluated for inducing resistance to leaf feeding by 1st-generation European corn borers, Ostrinia nubilalis (Huebner), in 2 susceptible inbred lines (Oh28 and WF9) of dent maize, Zea mays L. No mutants were found among 40,000 plants evaluated. The Ac-Ds mutable system probably is not a practical tool for maize breeders because the maize genotype being improved may be obsolete before a mutant can be found.
