In three years' trials of nine double hybrids and eight composite varieties at two high-altitude sites in the Selvas (equatorial rain forest) region, the composite Tuxpeno Amarillo significantly outyielded a local control and the best of the hybrid varieties, PMS264 and PMC2, which are of Caribbean origin, but the most stable was PMS264. Peruvian Perla-type lines made no useful contribution to the performance of hybrids in this environment.
