Evaluation of pasture systems and grain levels for grazing beef cattle with prediction equations for estimating animal performance

Evaluation of pasture systems and grain levels for grazing beef cattle with prediction equations for estimating animal performance

Dissertation Abstracts International, B 43(7): 2053-2054

Native range, native intersown range and sown pastures were evaluated for pasture production, quality and animal performance with yearling steers, fed maize daily at 0, 0.5 and 1% of body wt. Intersown lucerne became dominant in native ranges and although not selectively grazed, it accounted for 35% of the DM yield in spring and summer. Lucerne greatly increased the forage quality of intersown range but sown pastures had the highest quality averaged over the entire growing season.
