Fertilizer effects on yield, nitrogen content and amino acid composition of maize grain

In field trials in Bangkok in 1980, a local maize Suwan-1 was sown in Jan. and given 0-450 kg N, 25, 75 or 225 kg P + 25, 75 or 225 kg K + 15 kg Mg/ha and irrigated until 15-20 days before harvest to maintain soil m.c. at field capacity. Max. grain yield (3.73 t DM/ha) was obtained with 200 kg N + 225 kg P + 150 kg K compared with 0.90 t with no N fertilizer. Av. N content in the grain ranged from 1.60 to 1.97%.
