Fruit quality and storage ability of two apple cultivars as affected by rootstocks, planting systems, irrigation and growth retardants. Part I. Effect of orchard treatments on fruit quality and mineral content of apples

Fruit quality and storage ability of two apple cultivars as affected by rootstocks, planting systems, irrigation and growth retardants. Part I. Effect of orchard treatments on fruit quality and mineral content of apples

Fruit Science Reports 10(4): 161-172

In trials with 9-year-old trees, fruit quality in the cultivars McIntosh and Macspur was better in trees on M.7 than on M.26 rootstocks, and on widely spaced trees (740/ha for M.7 and 1335/ha for M.26) than on closely planted ones (1122/ha for M.7 and 1750-3500/ha for M.26). Data are tabulated on fruit N, K, Ca, Mg, Fe and soluble solid contents. Treatment with Alar 85 at 0.1% + Ethrel at 0.05% some 4-5 weeks after full bloom improved fruit colour and firmness.
