Genetic control of resistance to Trypanosoma cruzi in inbred mice

By day 17 after injection of 10superscript 3 trypomastigotes of the Peru strain of Trypanosoma cruzi, C3H/HeJ, BALB/c and CBA/N mice developed parasitaemia with at least 1 x 107 trypanomastigotes per ml, whereas C57BL/6, C57BL/10 and DBA/2 mice developed parasitaemia with 5 x 106/ml or less. Results of studies in F1 mice indicated that low parasitaemia was inherited as a dominant trait.
