Nearly homozygous F7 lines from the crosses la-Sensho X Kamenoo and la-Kamenoo X Sensho were evaluated for grain phenol reaction, grain shedding and resistance to Pyricularia oryzae strain Ken 53-33 under natural infection conditions. Grain phenol reaction was found to be controlled by a single gene, Ph, and shedding by a single recessive gene, which is thought to be different from sh.
