A description is given of the lumber demand component of a larger model - the Hardwood Assessment Market Model (HAMM) - which considers both stumpage and product supply and demand. The model is used to estimate annual demand from 1950 to 1980 for the four largest hardwood lumber markets: shipping and materials handling; furniture; mine timber and ties (sleepers); and construction.
