The effect of unsaponifiable substances (US) of maize on the plasma lipids of male rats was studied. alpha - and gamma -tocopherol, ubiquinone, beta -sitosterol and unsaponifiable maize oil fractions were also tested. The fat in the cholesterol-rich and vitamin E-poor basal diet consisted of butter or a triglyceride rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids.
