After an examination of the general importance of leisure in personal and social development and of the struggle for leisure as part of the class conflict, the article looks at the development of leisure in the socialist self management society of Yugoslavia: its place in the local community; the relation of school and community in leisure education; leisure in a family context and human needs for leisure and freedom.
