Crossing and selfing in the greenhouse, within a range of normal, male-sterile and female-sterile material, showed that when male-sterile plants were pollinated by fertile ones up to 88% of the flowers pollinated formed pods, while the mean number of seeds per pod was between 4.91 and 6.34. The figures were lower when fully fertile plants were crossed, and much lower after selfing.
