In experiments using water, the vacuum in the claw of a normal high-line milking unit (pipeline height 180 cm) rated at 380 mmHg fell by 100 mmHg as flowrate increased to 4 kg/min; the corresponding fall in claw vacuum with a low-line unit (pipeline height 15 cm) rated at 320 mmHg was 15 mmHg.
