Morphological and biological features of six-rowed and two-rowed spring barley varieties under drought conditions

Morphological and biological features of six-rowed and two-rowed spring barley varieties under drought conditions

Nauchno tekhnicheskii Byulleten' Vsesoyuznogo Selektsionno geneticheskogo Instituta (4): 19-27

Seven six-rowed varieties and 15 two-rowed (8 of the forest steppe and 7 of the steppe type) were studied during 1982 and 1983. Both types of two-rowed varieties gave 1.7-2.2 hkg/ha higher yields under drought than the six-rowed varieties, the steppe types generally giving higher yields than the forest steppe ones. The higher yield of the two-rowed varieties was to a great extent due to their greater number of productive tillers.
