Dairy cows with rumen fistulae and duodenal cannulae were given in experiment A a diet of hay and concentrates (50:50) with grain 80% of the concentrates. The contribution of wheat maize protein to total crude protein was 39.5% and 28.9%, respectively. In experiment B (hay:concentrates 67:33), the concentrates consisted entirely of grain. Wheat and maize protein provided 35.9% and 25.8% of total crude protein.
