Number of seeds in shelter sowing of Scots pine, Norway spruce and Siberian larch

Number of seeds in shelter sowing of Scots pine, Norway spruce and Siberian larch

Folia Forestalia, Institutum Forestale Fenniae 541: 16

Trials were made with 2, 4, 8 or 16 seeds per sowing spot, covered by clear plastic cones (70 mm diam., 80 mm ht.) in a regeneration area of thick moss forest type in southern Lapland. Good results were obtained with 4 (Scots pine), or 4 or 8 seeds (Norway spruce, Larix sibirica), i.e. about 1/5 that used in line or spot sowing.
