Nutritional characteristics of a sweet potato collection in the Papua New Guinea highlands

, : Nutritional characteristics of a sweet potato collection in the Papua New Guinea highlands. Tropical Agriculture 61(1): 20-24

When tubers from a collection of Ipomoea batatas cultivars (93 acquisitions) at North Simbu in the Papua New Guinea highlands were analysed, the proportions of DM, fibre and ash were in fairly close agreement with values previously reported in Papua New Guinea and elsewhere. Protein was generally rather low, although 5.3% of DM was recorded for one cultivar. All cultivars were deficient in sulphur-containing amino acids, particularly cystine/cysteine.
