The nutritive effect of propionic acid was investigated in 2 experiments with piglets and fattening pigs from 5 to 23 kg and 24 to 90 kg liveweight; both experiments were with 4 groups of 12. The diets were balanced isoenergetically and contained no propionic acid or 1, 2 or 3%. In the rearing experiment growth rate, feed intake and feed efficiency were not influenced by the propionic acid supplement.
