Response of new winter barley cultivars to mineral fertilizer

In trials in 1979-82 on calcareous chernozem soils in the Rostov region, the new winter barley Gorizont and Pallidum 198 gave av. grain yields of 3.69 and 3.05 t/ha without NPK and 4.78 and 4.21 t with 40 kg N + 60 kg P2O5 + 40 kg K2O/ha, resp.; further increases in NPK rates gave no additional yield. Gorizont is more resistant to lodging than Pallidum 198.
