Response of weeds and lowbush blueberries to hexazinone and nitrogen application

In May 1981, 0.6, 1.1 or 2.2 kg hexazinone/ha and 50 or 100 kg N (as urea)/ha were applied after pruning to lowbush blueberries at 13 sites in Maine. In 1981, increasing herbicide rates led to significant reductions in grass weeds, Solidago sp. and Spiraea latifolia and increasing injury to blueberries despite greater stem numbers and flowerbud numbers/stem. N increased Solidago stem numbers and blueberry stem length but did not affect S. latifolia.
