Results and perspectives of the study of bloodsucking Diptera in the Turkmenian SSR

Izvestiya Akademii Nauk Turkmensko SSR, Biologicheskikh Nauk (1): 35-41

The topics discussed in this review of research and possibilities for future studies on bloodsucking Diptera, especially mosquitoes, in the Turkmenian SSR, USSR, include the biological control of Culicidae using the fungus Coelomomyces iliensis and the fish Aplocheilus latipes, both of which were introduced from the Kazakh SSR; the role of bloodsucking Diptera in the transmission of arbovirus infections; the resistance of bloodsucking Diptera to insecticides; and the development of integrated control programmes.
