Results of surveys of helminthiasis in dromedaries in the Zinder department, Niger; their development during the year-control methods

Revue d' Elevage et de Medecine Veterinaire des Pays Tropicaux 37(1): 19-25

There are 82 000 camels in the Zinder department of southern Niger. Examination of 151 slaughtered animals and of 808 faecal samples from seven camel markets during the different seasons of the year revealed Haemonchus longistipes as the most important intestinal parasite. Other parasites were Stilesia sp., Impalaia nudicollis, Oesophagostomum columbianum, Trichuris globulosa, Trichostrongylus sp. and Globidium cameli. Mixed infections were found at 84% of PM examinations.
