Spring habit mutants in barley

Barley Genetics Newsletter 13: 30-32

Vernalization tests of 87 early maturing mutants from a hulled, winter cultivar, Chikurin Ibaraki 1, showed that 14 of them have complete or incomplete spring habit. When mutants Ea4, Ea6, Ea7a, Ea14b and Ea23b were crossed with each other, and F2 segregation for spring habit (as indicated by flag leaf emergence under a 24 h photoperiod) was investigated, all the mutants were found to have a single recessive gene in common.
