Abstract
The efficacy of selection depended on the genetic origin of the material involved. In the pure-line variety Nadezhnyi individual selection was of little effect, whereas in Condor, of hybrid origin, selection for spikelet number and panicle length was fairly effective. Selection was most effective in the mutant variety Belozernyi [White-grained], which is highly heterogeneous.
