Survival of Corynebacterium michiganense subsp. michiganense within host debris in soil

Survival of C. michiganense pv. michiganense in infected tomato stem pieces buried in different soil types was short, 3 months in a granitic sandy loam and 7 months in a clay loam. When the stem pieces were buried in soil kept at constant temp. (22 degrees C) and moisture (-0.003 kPa and -0.15 kPa) survival was longer, but still limited to 11 months. Soil temp. appears to have a greater effect on survival than moisture.
