The chemistry and kinetic behaviour of Cu-Cr-As/B wood preservatives. Part 6. Fixation of CCB in wood and physical and chemical comparison of CCB and CCA

The chemistry and kinetic behaviour of Cu-Cr-As/B wood preservatives. Part 6. Fixation of CCB in wood and physical and chemical comparison of CCB and CCA

Holzforschung und Holzverwertung 34(5): 80-86

In order to understand the behaviour of preservatives in use, a study was made of the reactions between CCA or Cu-Cr-B (CCB) formulations and wood or a guaiacol/glucose mixture; rate constants and free energies of activation are reported. Anticipated differences between the physical, chemical and bacteriological properties of CCA- and CCB-treated wood are discussed, based on the complex precipitates formed in these reactions. Some of the expected properties were verified by experiments.
