The control of variant surface antigen synthesis in trypanosomes

The control of variant surface antigen synthesis in trypanosomes

European Journal of Biochemistry 137(3): 383-389

The mechanisms of antigenic variation in African trypanosomes are reviewed with regard to the duplicative transposition of VSG genes, how transposition activates a VSG gene, telomeric gene conversion, and activation of telomeric VSG genes without detectable duplication.
