Two-month-old natsudaidai seedlings were planted in clay pots filled with Nihondaira diluvial soil sampled from an 8-year-old natsudaidai orchard. N, P and K fertilizers were applied as (NH4)2SO4, Ca(H2PO4)2 and K2SO4, respectively, (singly or N + P or N + K) at rates of 0 or 2 g/pot each, half in May and half in October. Seedling fresh weights and N, P and K uptakes were increased by N application but not by P or K.
