The effect of development stage on the effectiveness of foliar applied urea in increasing maize grain yield

Crop Production 9: 197-202

In field trials in 1978-9, grain yield of maize hybrid SR52 given 120 kg N/ha at sowing and (a) no spray or two 2% urea sprays 1 wk apart at (b) ear initiation, (c) just before silking, (d) 1 and 2 wk after silking or (e) both (c) and (d) did not differ significantly between treatments althouth grain N content was lowest with (a) and highest with (b).
