Included in this account is mention of 2 American visitors who developed high fever and were in an incipient haemorrhagic state (due to Trypanosoma rhodesiense infection) and a young man who, following a visit to Zimbabwe, developed an illness characterized by high fever and melena (he was infected with Plasmodium falciparum and Marburg virus).
