The influence of applying various turf fertilizers for several years on the root mass beneath the turf

Thirty-one fertilizers in 3 groups (herbicide-containing preparations, organic and easily soluble compounds, and synthetic + organic compounds) were applied from 1975 to 1979 to plots of turf originally composed of 45% Poa pratensis Merion, 25% Festuca rubra Oase, 25% F. rubra Topie and 5% Agrostis tenuis Highland. Control plots received either the standard complete fertilizer (ammonium sulphate + superphosphate + potassium chloride) or no fertilizer.
